FAQs
About Brodo
Brodo Broth Co was founded by James Beard award-winning Chef Marco Canora, where we've perfected the art and science of bone broth. Packed with proteins your body rapidly absorbs, our broth is a low-carb, low-calorie, zero-sugar powerhouse. It is an excellent meal replacement, offering more protein and fewer carbs than green juice without spiking blood sugar levels.
Beyond its delicious flavor, Brodo's bone broth is a holistic health solution. Loaded with essential amino acids, it supports healthy skin, bones, and joints. The gelatin in our broth is a digestive aid, effectively patching up your gut lining and facilitating nutrient absorption. Join us on a journey to wellness with every comforting sip of Brodo bone broth.
Brodo Broth Co. started with Chef Marco Canora's vision for the takeout window at his restaurant, Hearth. After 11 years of contemplation, the perfect idea struck—a novel concept of serving delicious bone broth, much like your morning coffee.
Chef Marco's health transformation fueled the idea. After years of abusing his body working in kitchens, he embraced bone broth, brewed by himself, as a key part of a healthier lifestyle. Eager to share this alternative with fellow New Yorkers, Brodo was born in 2014 from a tiny window overlooking First Avenue.
From that small window, Brodo expanded, and now you can have it delivered to your door.
Brodo Broth Co stands out by upholding the timeless art of crafting broth—in an authentic way. Our distinction lies in using real bones from animals raised on genuine pastures, ensuring a slow-simmered broth free from concentrates and preservatives.
Sourcing excellence is non-negotiable. Our bones come from cooperatives and family farms, guaranteeing top-notch quality. Beef bones from 100% grass-fed animals and certified organic, pasture-raised poultry reflect our commitment to purity.
Chef Marco Canora's insistence on tradition and quality permeates every step of our process, from meticulous sourcing to slow cooking. In a world of shortcuts, we remain dedicated to doing things the right way.
At Brodo, our broth is more than a beverage—it's a pledge to well-being. Taste the difference between tradition and quality; it's an investment in flavor worth savoring.
We do! If you're ever in Manhattan, please visit us at our original window location in the East Village. We sell hot broth by the cupful and you can also purchase frozen broth to take home. We also offer soups and a few seasonal items.
You may even get to wave at Chef Marco through the window!

Ingredients
Absolutely not! At Brodo, we believe in keeping things pure and natural, which means we never use any preservatives in our products. Our broths are made with simple, high-quality ingredients, just like you would if you were making them at home. We focus on crafting nutritious, delicious broths without any unnecessary additives, so you can feel confident that you're getting only the best, every time.
To preserve freshness, we process our broth much like you would if you were canning bone broth at home - with heat and pressure.
Yes! We spent lots of time researching the best possible packaging from all angles, including the materials used to make the packaging.
Yes! Our Vegan Seaweed & Mushroom Broth is a delicious bone-free broth beloved by meat-eaters and vegans alike. The Vegan Seaweed & Mushroom Broth does not contain gelatin, however, some studies show shiitake (and types of kelp) can promote collagen production in the body. It is nourishing, hydrating, and delicious!
You can find the full list of ingredients and nutritional information for each of our broths right on their product info pages! Just head to our "Build your own box" page, select the specific broth you’re interested in, and you’ll see all the details laid out for you. We believe in transparency, so we’re happy to provide all the information you need to make the best choice for your health. Let us know if you have any other questions—we're always here to help!
Our bone broths are regularly tested for lead and reports have shown that levels are under the detectable amount.
Our bone broth contains 350 milligrams per 1-cup serving. We season to taste and only use mineral-rich sea salt.
We used to sell only frozen bone broth, but we have recently switched to bone broth that requires no freezing or refrigeration until it’s opened.
While it's difficult to measure collagen content in a natural product, our broths contain 10g of protein per serving! And that's including collagen along with other nutritious amino acids.
Since gelling occurs at cold temperatures, you won’t notice it at room temperature.. If you don’t trust us, you can stick a pouch in the fridge overnight and you will see it gel!
Our Spicy Nonna bone broth contains a small amount of apple cider vinegar for flavor, but the rest of our broths have no vinegar added. Other broth makers may use apple cider vinegar as a shortcut to extract nutrients from the bones. Our chef and founder Marco Canora believes this unnecessary. Using the right kinds of bones and cooking for the right amount of time is a more effective way to make a truly nutrient-dense broth.
Our chicken & turkey are certified organic, raised on pasture, and fed a vegetarian diet free of GMOs, antibiotics, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides. Our beef is 100% grass-fed and finished, raised on pasture, and free of antibiotics and hormones. All are sourced from free-range providers.
All of our bones come from trusted cooperatives and family farms that share our commitment to quality and sustainability. We carefully select our suppliers to ensure that the bones we use come from ethically raised animals, supporting both responsible farming practices and high-quality ingredients. We believe that sourcing from these smaller, more mindful operations makes all the difference in the quality of our broths. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask—we're here to help!
We have heard many of our customers enjoying Brodo base broths (Organic Chicken, Signature Hearth, and Grassfed Beef) as a part of a clear liquid diet. But please make sure to double check with your doctor - we list all the ingredients on the individual product pages here.
Brodo is made without gluten or dairy. We are not gluten-free or dairy-free certified, but we do everything possible to avoid cross-contamination. However we recommend anyone with a severe allergy to avoid our product.
Our product is also Whole30 approved, and Keto certified, and Paleo approved!
Of course we encourage you to look at the ingredients on each individual product page to make sure it safely fits into your diet.
Preparations
From the pantry or fridge, you can either heat your bone broth on the stove, or in the microwave or add it to your favorite dish. Make sure to pour it into your favorite mug before microwaving.
No. Our packaging contains aluminum and therefore should not be microwaved. To heat your broth in a microwave, we recommend starting with 60-90 seconds in a microwave-safe mug or container until you find your perfect temp.
Yes! We are constantly evaluating ways to minimize our footprint. The weight and bulky volume of glass jars drive very high transportation emissions. The melting and reshaping process associated with recycling glass is very energy intensive. Glass production also requires the right type of sand, which is an increasingly finite resource. So while we love glass as a refillable package, it’s not a good choice for Brodo.
Until opened, your broth will last for up to one year at room temperature. After opening, your broth can be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days.
Our broth is wonderful when sipped straight from a favorite mug and it’s also great for cooking soups, risottos, stews, and more. We also love cooking our grains in Brodo instead of water for added flavor and nutrition. Check out our blog for recipe inspiration!
